Workshop on formulating “Code of Practice” for Responsible Journalism
Democracy House in collaboration with Maldives Journalist Association (MJA) organized a workshop on formulating a “Code of Practice” for responsible journalism, on 30th April 2010 in Bandos Island Resort.
This initiative is supported by UNDP. Editors from Haveeru Online, Dhi TV, Haveeru News, Radio Atoll, Voice of Maldives, Haama Daily, Sun FM, VTV and Miadhu participated in the workshop.
The purpose of formulating a “Code of Practice” for responsible journalism is to facilitate a self regulatory mechanism within the media. A draft Code which was circulated among the editors prior to the meeting was modified during the workshop, based on consultative input and recommendations from the editors. The workshop was moderated by the former Speaker of the Parliament, UZ Ahmed Zahir.
