Democracy House has initiated a series of awareness sessions entitled “Learning Rights and Responsibilities” targeted for students in Secondary Schools in Male’. The first of these sessions took place in Lale’ Youth International School on 21st April 2010. During the two hour interactive session, students were provided information on fundamental rights and responsibilities as found in the Second Chapter of the Maldivian Constitution. The main message of the workshop was “Rights should be enjoyed with realizing and attending to the Responsibilities that comes with it”.
The workshop was facilitated by Mohamed Anil, one of the founder member of DH and a lawyer by profession. Transparency Maldives provided booklets on the topic for distribution to the students. Fifty nine students from grades seven, eight and nine participated in the awareness session.
